If you’re a fellow ‘TAG’ owner and are braving Oxford Street this weekend and would like a respite from Christmas shopping, you should visit TAG Heuer’s flagship London boutique for the ‘Museum in Motion’.
This pop-up exhibition celebrates the brand’s motoring racing history and the 55th anniversary of the iconic TAG Heuer Carrera, named after the legendary ‘Carrera Panamericana’ Mexican road race.
The exhibition features a carefully curated selection of heritage Heuer timepieces from the company’s own museum in Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, spanning six decades.
Highlights include, a 1963 Heuer Carrera – the first sports chronograph produced specifically for drivers and sports enthusiasts; the 1916 Heuer Mikrograph, the first stopwatch to be accurate to 1/100th of a second, which was used for the Olympic Games in 1920, 1924 and 1928; and THE watch on my personal wish list, the 1969 Heuer Monaco.
This revolutionary timepiece, the first automatic, square-cased and water-resistant chronograph, is synonymous with Hollywood icon Steve McQueen who wore a blue version in the 1970 film ‘Le Mans’.
The exhibition continues until Sunday (18th) at Tag Heuer, 499 Oxford Street.
If you can’t make this, then mark Salon QP in your diary. The watch and luxury lifestyle ‘experience’ returns to the Saatchi Gallery for its tenth edition from Thursday 22nd to Saturday 24th.
Some of the world’s most iconic watchmakers, such as Breitling, IWC, Longines and Vacheron will exhibit alongside independent ateliers, while a series of talks covers topics such as adventure, aviation and a guide to watch collecting, with speakers including the adventurer Pen Hadow and ‘Red 1’ the Red Arrows team leader Martin Pert.
The event opens with a VIP reception on Thursday, while Friday evening hosts another private viewing and reception. The exhibition is free to visit, but the talks and parties are subject to a fee.
