NDY November Diary

A selection of events in this month's NDY diary... because there’s more to November than fireworks!

Eat

The Vineyard – Seven-course ‘cook off’ featuring Michael Caines MBE, Wednesday 21st

The Vineyard, the Newbury five-star hotel and spa renowned for its 30,000-bottle wine cellar and equally expansive tasting dinners, is the host of a special battle of big flavours between its own executive chef Robby Jenks and his former mentor, celebrity chef Michael Caines MBE. The seven-course dinner will feature foie gras, scallops and fillet of beef with a wine pairing per course. Dinner guests can stay over and recover in the spa with a detoxing treatment the next day.

Drink

Le Beaujolais Nouveau – Thursday 15th

It may not appeal to oenophiles (AKA wine snobs) but the release of the famous product of the Gamay grape is celebrated with festivals all over France. There is still the ‘race’ to bring bottles over or under La Manche for same day tastings. Davys wine bar ‘The City Flogger’ is hosting a Beaujolais Nouveau dinner comprising a tasting of the new vintage, a Beaujolais Cru masterclass and dinner.

See London listings for other Beaujolais Nouveau events.

View

Oceania, Royal Academy of Arts. (until December 10th)

This blockbuster exhibition celebrating South Pacific art and culture, both historic and contemporary, has garnered rave reviews from critics. Tickets are still available priced at £20 (although free for New Zealand and South Pacific passport holders, a nice touch), with Thursday and Friday evenings offering late viewings. For November, classic St James restaurant Le Caprice is offering a dining package of a two-course meal, glass of wine and exhibition entry for £40 pp.

Knockin’ on Halycon’s Door

Bob Dylan at the Halcyon Gallery, until Friday 30th

The iconic singer-songwriter has been revered for his music since the 60s but his parallel talent as a visual artist has only been in the public eye for the past decade or so. His first exhibition ‘Drawn Blank’ opened in Germany in 2007, visiting the Halcyon Gallery the next year. The Mayfair venue is now hosting ‘Mondo Scripto’ - a historic pairing of Dylan’s most renowned lyrics, handwritten by him and his original pencil drawings. Songs featured include ‘Lay lady lay’, ‘Like a rolling stone’ and an original installation reimagining ‘Knockin’ on Heaven’s door’.
